Programs to Alleviate Food Insecurity

Since 1973, the Food Bank has been committed to its vision that no one goes hungry in Los Angeles County. Alleviating food insecurity is our core work, and it is critical to millions of people in Los Angeles County

An estimated 1 in 4 people in Los Angeles County face food insecurity. The Food Bank provides critical food assistance through our Partner Agency Network, as well as through Food Bank Programs:

After School Meal Program

Our After School Meals program provides healthy meals to at-risk children and youth aged 5 to 18 after the regular school day ends.

Backpack Program

Food for this program contains enough food for at least six nutritious meals to ensure that each child did not go hungry over the weekend.

CalFresh Assistance

The CalFresh Outreach Program, or SNAP, helps low-income, food-insecure individuals and families gain access to nutritious food.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program, serves low-income seniors at sites throughout Los Angeles County.

DISTRIBUTING FOOD

We distribute nutritious food to our network of more than 600 partner agencies and meal programs, with locations near you.

Extra Helpings

The Extra Helpings Program routes perishable and other donated food from grocery stores and other local sources directly to Food Bank partner agencies.

Food Assistance for Older Adults

Seniors are particularly vulnerable to hunger. We offer programs that provide seniors with nutritious food to help them save money so they can pay for other essentials.

Food Assistance for Children

No child should go hungry. That’s why we help fight childhood hunger through a variety of innovative initiatives.

Mobile Food Pantry

The Mobile Food Pantry serves low-income families in underserved areas. The food distributed is a combination of produce and perishable goods.

Nutrition

The LA Regional Food Bank is committed to distributing high-quality, nutritious and culturally appropriate food.

Partner Agency Network

With 2 million people facing food insecurity in LA County, the Food Bank could not reach those looking for food assistance without the help from our Partner Agencies.
