The Most Effective Ways You Can Help Bolster the Food Bank’s Response to the Wildfires and Local Emergencies

The Most Effective Ways You Can Help Bolster the Food Bank’s Response to the Wildfires and Local Emergencies

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is working with government agencies, nonprofit and faith-based partners and others to respond to the fires throughout Los Angeles County.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is among the thousands of organizations ready to respond, along with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and the Emergency Network Los Angeles (ENLA), to disasters such as the current wildfires. The Food Bank works with hundreds of partner agencies across Los Angeles County to provide food and nutrition assistance to neighbors, especially during tough times.

Wildfires can devastate entire communities, displacing families, destroying homes, and disrupting lives. For many, the loss extends beyond property, impacting jobs and food security, especially for those who depend on school meals for their children.

In response, while organizations like the American Red Cross focus on providing shelter and emergency aid, food banks such as the LA Regional Food Bank are crucial in delivering food and water to neighbors. By supporting shelters and relief agencies, they help ensure that individuals and families affected by wildfires have access to the nourishment they need to face these difficult times.

How You Can Get Involved

  • Financial donations: Cash donations are essential to the Food Bank’s ability to serve the community effectively. Financial contributions provide flexibility, directing resources to the areas of greatest need. These donations help the Food Bank glean, store, and transport donated food, maximizing its value and reach.

Additionally, monetary support enables the Food Bank to purchase vital items in bulk, leveraging discounts to stretch every dollar further. Most importantly, cash donations empower the organization to respond to changing demands such as wildfires, develop innovative programs, and maintain the infrastructure necessary for efficient food distribution. Every contribution strengthens the fight against hunger.

  • Volunteering your time: A key part of the Food Bank’s operations is the power of community volunteers. Tens of thousands of dedicated individuals donate their time and energy to sort, glean, pack, and distribute food, allowing the organization to maintain a lean operational structure. This volunteer model reduces labor costs and fosters a sense of unity and shared purpose within the community.
  • Host a virtual fundraiser: Help us make a life-saving difference in LA County. Every dollar raised helps us provide nutritious meals and additional resources to our communities during this time of extreme need.

As government officials have reiterated in their public remarks, the first and most important priority is keeping residents safe, getting individuals to evacuate from areas close to the fires, and providing fire departments with the resources needed to combat the ongoing multiple fires in our area. The Food Bank is closely monitoring the situation. For all updates regarding the Food Bank’s response to the local emergencies, please visit https://www.lafoodbank.org/fire.

Through the kindness of our community, the Food Bank and partner agencies across LA County can continue to provide essential food and nutrition assistance to those impacted by the wildfires and beyond. Please consider joining the fight against hunger.
