Karina’s Story: How FISH of West Valley Helps Families Like Hers Thrive

Karina’s Story: How FISH of West Valley Helps Families Like Hers Thrive

For Karina, a devoted mother of ten, putting food on the table isn’t always easy—especially at the start of each month, when resources run thin and the cost of living in Los Angeles County continues to rise. That’s when Karina turns to FISH of West Valley Community Resource Center, a vital partner agency of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, for support.

“My family of ten usually runs out of food for most of the month, and being able to visit FISH to get our nutritional needs met has been really helpful,” Karina shares.

FISH does more than provide food. It offers dignity, compassion and comprehensive care. For Karina’s youngest children, the Center’s assistance goes beyond pantry staples. “FISH has been a great resource, especially for the little babies I have. They’ll even provide baby food, formula, diapers and all the needs for my children,” she explains.

Without this support, Karina says, she would face difficult choices. “Without the help of FISH, it would be really difficult, and I’d have to find another job to compensate for the support I receive at FISH.”

FISH of West Valley, guided by a faith-based mission, welcomes and embraces all community members, regardless of age, color, gender, nationality, physical or mental ability, race, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. The Center focuses on helping the most vulnerable in the community, including seniors, the disabled, and those experiencing homelessness. Every member of its congregation is committed to serving others with compassion, equality, and justice for all.
