Summer Lunch Spotlight: Eastman Elementary

Summer Lunch Spotlight: Eastman Elementary

Before COVID-19, 1 in 4 children in Los Angeles County struggled with food insecurity. Now, that number is likely higher.

Good health starts with good food. And where there is good health, there is the ability to learn, play and give back. Without healthy food, the cycle of food insecurity is perpetuated. Eating healthy, balanced meals is especially challenging in our community for the 1 in 4 children who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

A hungry child cannot focus in school – they struggle to perform in the classroom, consistently scoring lower than their peers. In order to ensure that food-insecure children in Los Angeles County have the nutritious food they need to grow, learn and thrive, the Food Bank provides Free Summer Lunch.

Due to COVID-19, Grab and Go Meals were offered for Summer Lunch 2020 at a total of 22 locations. From June 1 through August 20, all children were welcomed to participate in Grab and Go breakfast and lunch. This summer was even more difficult for some of our neighbors as learning from home presents new burdens. The Food Bank is committed to making sure that hunger is not one of those burdens. Gifts from the community helped the Food Bank provide healthy food to the children and families in LA who need us the most.

One of the sites included Eastman Elementary.

Without your generous gifts, the Food Bank wouldn’t be able to help provide nutritious meals to children who need us most.
