LOS ANGELES – SEPTEMBER 9, 2026 – As Hunger Action Month inspires the collective action required to support millions of people facing hunger across the country, Los Angeles County is demonstrating the power of neighbors helping neighbors.
Throughout the 13th annual Walmart and Sam’s Club Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign that took place April 6-May 3, 2026, local shoppers, associates, suppliers, and supporters helped raise $90,426 for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to support local families experiencing food insecurity, the equivalent of more than 126,000 meals.
The funds will help the Food Bank provide much-needed food and nutrition assistance to neighbors across LA County, working alongside hundreds of partner agencies throughout the region.
Every month, one in four LA County residents faces the fear of not knowing where their next meal will come from. Food insecurity affects people from all walks of life. Rising living costs, unexpected emergencies, job disruptions, and economic challenges can force households to make impossible choices between paying rent, covering medical expenses, or putting food on the table.
“We’re grateful to Walmart, Sam’s Club and the community for making a gift like this one possible,” said Michael Flood, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. “As individuals and families continue to struggle to make ends meet, food assistance continues to be crucial in our communities, and gifts like this one help us mobilize more resources to those we serve.”
This Hunger Action Month, the Food Bank is encouraging community members to recognize that everyone has a role in helping end hunger. The annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign demonstrated what is possible when shoppers, retailers, food manufacturers, and hunger-relief organizations work together to support local families.
To date, the campaign has helped secure more than 2.4 billion meals for the Feeding America network of local food banks. In Los Angeles County, support from the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. helps the Food Bank distribute food through a network of partner agencies, including other nonprofit organizations, shelters, secular and nonsecular organizations.
Beyond Fight Hunger. Spark Change., Walmart’s year-round support includes robust food donations and investments that help strengthen hunger relief infrastructure, enabling food banks and their community partners to rescue, transport, and distribute more food to people who need it.
