Adventures to Dreams: Helping Neighbors Blossom Through Food Distributions

Adventures to Dreams: Helping Neighbors Blossom Through Food Distributions

Adventures to Dreams Enrichment is a proud LA Regional Food Bank partner agency serving the Long Beach community with food distributions.

As an educator in Los Angeles, Miss Sheila G. was heartbroken to hear that her students would spend their summers indoors doing nothing. After coordinating museum field trips with some of the students, she wanted to do more for the children in her neighborhood who were likely facing similar circumstances. And that’s how Adventures to Dreams Enrichment was born.

Five people stand smiling in front of a colorful mural that reads “Adventures to Dreams,” featuring cartoon insects and flowers, next to gardening equipment, sunflowers, and tables offering free food in an outdoor space.

Initially, the organization started as a community garden, with summer camps to teach children where food came from, from seed to blossom. Eventually, the organization teamed up with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and since then, they’ve been hosting monthly food distributions at Drake Park in Long Beach’s 90813 zip code, one of the city’s most disadvantaged areas.

Each month, hundreds of families arrive at Drake Park as early as possible to be among the first to get food from Adventures to Dreams. Here, they are welcomed with open arms and given the opportunity to choose from a variety of food items that will help put food on the table for themselves and their families.

Helping Their Neighbors Blossom

Families like Elena’s and Kyle’s benefit from the distributions at Adventures to Dreams.

Elena’s story is one shared by thousands of neighbors, a fixed monthly income that simply doesn’t stretch far enough to cover the rising cost of groceries. As a mother, she prioritizes providing sufficient, nutritious meals for her growing daughter. Rather than skipping meals or sacrificing other essentials, Elena has found a reliable solution at Adventures to Dreams.

Kyle is a father who attends the monthly food distribution at Adventures to Dreams Enrichment. His family is currently living on one income while he finds another job. The support he has received from this and other food pantries is filling a real and immediate gap.

Food distributions like the one available at Adventures to Dreams Enrichment and other Food Bank partner agencies are made possible through the generous support of the community.
