The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Celebrates the 23rd Annual Season for Sharing

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Celebrates the 23rd Annual Season for Sharing

The luncheon honors groups and individuals who have made significant contributions to combating hunger in Los Angeles County.

LOS ANGELES, CA— December 18, 2025 —The 23rd Annual Season for Sharing event hosted by the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and sponsored by FedEx, took place at the Omni Hotel in LA on December 17. Each year, this signature event highlights the vital role donors, individuals, and organizations play in providing nutritious food to our neighbors in need across Los Angeles County.

“Throughout the year, we are reminded of the incredible power our community holds when we come together with compassion and purpose,” said Michael Flood, President and CEO of the Food Bank. “Thanks to this year’s honorees, as well as the generous support of our partners, volunteers, and donors, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank continues to provide nutritious food to families, seniors, and individuals across every corner of LA County.”

This year, the Food Bank is proud to present the 2025 Tony Collier Award—for the first time to a duo—to Pastor Norman Johnson and Loretta Johnson of First New Christian Fellowship. This award recognizes their more than 30 years of faithful service to the community and their vital partnership with the Food Bank. First New Christian Fellowship is a church deeply committed to its city. Led by Pastor Norman and his wife, Loretta, the couple guides their congregation in worship and inspires them through dedicated community service. They serve as a shining example of the Food Bank’s vision and mission, and are truly deserving of this honor.

The First Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena (PazNaz) stands as an invaluable partner of the Food Bank. At the heart of their mission is the Helping Hands program, a volunteer-driven compassion ministry that provides vital groceries and basic necessities to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in the San Gabriel Valley. The commitment of PazNaz was profoundly demonstrated when the Eaton fires struck the Pasadena area, resulting in the loss of their Altadena church, another center for community food services. Despite this setback, PazNaz prepared for an increased demand, consistently distributing an average of more than 15,000 pounds of food each week. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is honored to champion its work and is proud to present itthem with the 2025 Community Spirit Award.

Each year, the Community Partner Award is presented to an outstanding Food Bank partner who has made a significant impact in their local community. SBWIB is a premier workforce development agency that serves as a critical economic engine in the southwestern region of Los Angeles County. The SBWIB and the Food Bank serve as two complementary pillars of the social safety net in the South Bay region, addressing the twin challenges of economic instability and food insecurity. SBWIB has provided 6 full-time employees to the Food Bank over the years, including team members who have received multiple promotions into leadership roles.

This year, the Food Bank is proud to present the Fighting Hunger, Giving Hope Lifetime Achievement Award to four recipients – Margarita Alvarez Gomez, Debbie Decker, Rev. Marsha E. Harris, and Barbara Howell.

Serving as the Executive Director of Central City Neighborhood Partners (CCNP), Margarita Alvarez Gomez has been a driving force behind the organization’s mission to provide holistic, “wraparound” services, successfully securing major funding such as the Citi Foundation’s Community Progress Makers grant to scale operations for over a decade. Her leadership was particularly vital during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which she oversaw the rapid expansion of food security programs, financial literacy coaching, and digital equity initiatives to meet the community’s surging needs.

Debbie Decker is the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the West Valley Food Pantry, where she has served as a transformative leader for more than a decade. She is widely credited with guiding the organization through a period of explosive growth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the pantry rapidly scaled its operations to serve over 14,000 individuals a month, up from 3,000. Debbie is known for her holistic and compassionate approach to food insecurity; she champions the philosophy that “no one goes away hungry” and has expanded the pantry’s services to include senior delivery programs, homeless outreach, and the provision of essential hygiene and infant supplies.

Rev. Marsha E. Harris is the Pastor and Administrator of Central Lutheran Church in Van Nuys, where she is celebrated for revitalizing a once-dwindling congregation into a vibrant hub of community service and food security. Drawing on her previous career in urban planning and business management, she adopted a “boots on the ground” approach, famously walking the neighborhood to directly identify and address the needs of local residents. This led to the creation of a robust Mobile Food Pantry, which now serves hundreds of households weekly, as well as the establishment of the Central Community Garden, providing fresh produce and educational programs to the community.

Barbara Howell is the longtime Executive Director and CEO of the Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC), having led the organization for over 20 years before her retirement in November 2025. During her tenure, she was instrumental in transforming BTAC into a centralized resource for Burbank’s most vulnerable residents, overseeing a major facility renovation and expanding essential services to include groceries, hygiene support, and homeless outreach. Barbara is widely recognized for her community leadership, particularly for guiding the organization through periods of heightened demand, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and industry labor strikes.

In 2013, the Food Bank lost a longtime friend and supporter when Dennis Winston passed away after a battle with cancer. His leadership, eloquence, humor, and ability to unite people were hallmarks of his years on the board and as chairman. Establishing the Dennis Winston Memorial Leadership Award was a natural way for the Food Bank to keep his memory alive and recognize Board members who embody his traits and values. This year’s honoree is Keith Addis. Keith has served on the Food Bank’s Board since 2020, playing a critical role on the Philanthropy Committee. He and his wife, Keri Selig, also host the annual A Million Reasons Event at their home. A Million Reasons, along with other fundraising initiatives, including the 2025 America’s Favorite Couple competition, has collectively raised more than $3.3 million for the Food Bank.

Without the support of our sponsors, donors, and Partner Agency Network, the Food Bank’s work would not be able to reach the hundreds of thousands of individuals who seek food assistance each month. The Food Bank congratulates this year’s Season for Sharing award recipients for their invaluable contributions to the fight against hunger throughout the year.
