Honoring Rams pLAymaker Lila Ramirez and Nearly Two Decades of Service at the Food Bank

Honoring Rams pLAymaker Lila Ramirez and Nearly Two Decades of Service at the Food Bank

At the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, our mission has always been rooted in community, and Lila Ramirez’s story embodies that spirit.

Lila’s journey reflects the very heart of our work. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles as an only child, she relied on summer lunches at the park. Those early experiences showed her what community care looks like in action. Guided by parents who emphasized hard work and giving back, Lila learned that helping others was not just something you did but something you carried with you.

Nearly 19 years ago, Lila joined the Food Bank for what was meant to be a temporary three-month role. Instead, she found her purpose. Over the years, countless small moments shared smiles, heartfelt thank yous, and the quiet dignity of families receiving food confirmed what we see every day. This work changes lives, including those of the individuals who do it.

“I realized that serving others wasn’t just work, I found my purpose,” she said.

In November 2025, we were proud to witness a truly special moment when Lila was surprised as the 13th and final Los Angeles Rams pLAymaker of 2025. Along with the honor came a gift to support the Food Bank, which will help nourish neighbors across Los Angeles County.

“Being named a ‘pLAymaker’ is an honor because it reflects the full circle of my journey,” Ramirez said. “I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, relying on community support while my parents worked long hours, sometimes two jobs. To now be someone who uplifts others feels incredibly meaningful. It means using my experiences and compassion to create hope and opportunities for those who need it most.”

For the Food Bank, Lila’s leadership represents what it means to inspire change through presence, care, and compassion.

“We inspire change by showing up and caring. Whether it’s volunteering, supporting local programs, or helping neighbors, every act of kindness matters. Real change starts with each of us choosing to lift someone else up.”

We are deeply grateful to Lila for her nearly two decades of service, to the Rams for their continued commitment to shining a spotlight on hunger relief, and to our community of supporters who make moments like this possible. Together, #WeFeedLA. Get involved in the fight against hunger today.
