About 13 years ago, Ana Cardenas learned about the Church of Chatsworth, or FISH of West Valley, a Los Angeles Regional Food Bank partner agency. She had recently lost her job and didn’t have a lot of money to feed herself or her family. She had fallen on hard times, and the team members at FISH did everything they could to help her get through that patch in her life.
While she went to other food pantries in the surrounding area for food assistance, there was something about FISH that captured her heart. Moved by the help they provided to her, Cardenas decided to learn more about giving back to the community that helped her and her family in hard times. It was then that she started volunteering, and as time went on, she moved into her current position as Food Pantry Director, helping people like her on a weekly basis.
For Karina, a devoted mother of ten, putting food on the table isn’t always easy, especially at the start of each month, when resources run thin and the cost of living in Los Angeles County continues to rise. That’s when Karina turns to FISH for support.
FISH does more than provide food. It offers dignity, compassion and comprehensive care. For Karina’s youngest children, the Center’s assistance goes beyond pantry staples. “FISH has been a great resource, especially for the little babies I have. They’ll even provide baby food, formula, diapers and all the needs for my children,” she explains.
When you support the Food Bank, you’re helping food pantries like FISH get essential food and household items that they can distribute to their communities. Consider making a contribution to the Food Bank and supporting these programs.
