The LA Regional Food Bank’s Free Summer Meal Program Will Provide Daily Nutritious Meals to About 2,200 Food-Insecure Kids in LA County

LOS ANGELES — May 5, 2022 — The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is pleased to announce that it will provide lunch and breakfast through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) extension of the Summer Meal Program. The program starts on June 6th and will continue through September 2, 2022, providing nutritious morning and midday meals to children who would normally receive breakfast and lunch during school.

An estimated 1,000 breakfast meals and over 2,200 lunch meals will be served daily. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will be served at 48 locations throughout Los Angeles County. The 48 locations include the following:

1. Daily on-site programming locations.
2. Daily grab and go Monday-Friday meal locations.

The Food Bank’s Child Nutrition programs provide well-balanced meals and food kits for children facing hunger all year long. According to the Association of American Colleges and Universities, students who experience food insecurity are more likely to suffer psychological and academic effects, including a decrease in physical and mental health. Food-insecure students are more likely to earn lower grades than their peers and have trouble concentrating and paying attention in class.

Early access to healthy meals supports strong educational development, which in turn sets kids up for a successful future full of opportunity and promise.
