Celebrating Food Bank Volunteers During Volunteer Appreciation Month

The Food Bank is considered one of the top volunteer opportunities in LA County. Find out why!

For over 50 years, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has worked to mobilize food resources in the community and help feed hundreds of thousands of our neighbors monthly. Everyday operations require hundreds of individuals, and without the help from hundreds of partner agencies throughout LA County, the Food Bank’s reach wouldn’t be the same.

Every year, tens of thousands of volunteers generously donate their time and energy to help fight hunger in our community. Whether they are sorting or gleaning food, packing, or distributing directly to our neighbors, their dedication makes a tangible difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.

Why Volunteers Matter

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Food Bank. In 2024 alone, over 25,000 volunteers contributed 159,741 hours of service. Their hard work helped us provide more than 130 million pounds of food and product to our neighbors throughout LA County. Every hour spent volunteering means more families have food on the table.

Who Volunteers?

Volunteering opportunities are available for individuals, groups and corporate teams looking for the perfect team-building activity. Additionally, many individuals choose to celebrate their birthdays, anniversaries or any special occasion at the Food Bank.

You can volunteer at the Food Bank’s South Los Angeles or City of Industry Distribution Center or a partner agency. Volunteer opportunities are available on weekdays and Saturdays at the Food Bank.
