Finding Support and Dignity at North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry

Finding Support and Dignity at North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry

On a Friday morning, Anna arrived at North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry for the first time.

Like many families across Los Angeles County, Anna and her husband have been navigating a period of financial uncertainty. Her husband is currently between jobs, and everyday household expenses have become more difficult to manage. Recent summer heat has added another expense to the family budget as utility bills have increased.

For Anna, receiving groceries offered some much-needed relief. But just as meaningful was the way she was welcomed.

A Welcoming Place to Find Help

Visiting a food pantry for the first time can be an intimidating experience. Anna shared that the kindness and friendliness she encountered at North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry made it easier.

She especially appreciated the dignity with which she and other community members were treated.

That welcoming environment is an important part of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s work with its network of more than 600 partner agencies across Los Angeles County.

Through food pantries, faith-based organizations, community centers, and other partners, the Food Bank helps connect neighbors with nutritious food across the region.

For neighbors like Anna, that support can help make room in a household budget for other necessities.

When Everyday Expenses Add Up

Food insecurity does not always have one single cause. A job transition, an unexpected expense, or an unusually high utility bill can quickly put additional pressure on a household budget.

During periods of acute heat, families may face difficult choices as they try to keep their homes cool while managing the cost of groceries, housing, transportation, and other necessities.

For Anna and her husband, having somewhere to turn for groceries and essentials during a challenging period has been meaningful.

Her experience is also a reminder that people seeking food assistance come from many different circumstances. Sometimes, a family simply needs a little additional support to get through a difficult stretch.

If you or someone you know needs food assistance, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s Pantry Locator can help you find food resources in your community.
