Los Angeles Clippers Volunteer at the Kia Forum to Distribute Food to Those in Need

Los Angeles Clippers Volunteer at the Kia Forum to Distribute Food to Those in Need

In October, the Los Angeles Clippers teamed up with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to distribute food to people in need at the Kia Forum in Inglewood. This was the second year in a row for this distribution, and the format was again a drive-through that allows those seeking food assistance an easy way to acquire food and grocery items while remaining socially distanced and safe in their car.

Multiple players and Clippers staff, including coaches, volunteered to distribute food to 600 families, or an estimated 2,400 people. Thanks to their hard work, these children, seniors, families and individuals have food in their pantries and refrigerators.

Drive-through distributions like this one were very common during the COVID-19 pandemic, and images like these were very common in the media in 2020 and 2021. Many people think these types of distributions are over, but in fact, the LA Regional Food Bank continues to work with partners like the Clippers to continue to provide these distributions throughout Los Angeles County. Furthermore, a recent USC study shows that food insecurity has spiked again as inflation diminishes people’s budgets. These drive-through distributions continue to make a big difference for people all over LA County and may be here to stay.

The meal kits provided at this distribution should last an average family of four approximately five days. A Food Bank box that contains shelf-stable items was provided, in addition to a protein item and box of fresh vegetables.

John Wall of the LA Clippers said, “I know the struggle people are going through – being less fortunate and not being able to take care of themselves or their families during hard times. It’s better to be known as a great person than a great basketball player.”

This event was made possible by the Los Angeles Clippers Foundation and their partners Planet Fitness and Solar Optimum.
