2019 LA Times Food Bowl Fights Hunger and Brings People Together

2019 LA Times Food Bowl Fights Hunger and Brings People Together

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank was proud to be a Charity Partner of the LA Times Food Bowl.

The LA Times Food Bowl is an annual, citywide festival that features hundreds of events across Los Angeles with a mix of local favorites and world-renowned chefs. Spanning 31 days of food, Food Bowl encompasses a mix of dinners, parties, tours, pop-ups, classes and a Night Market in Grand Park.

This partnership with the LA Times, and with the Food Bowl in particular, is especially important to the Food Bank because of our relationship with the late Jonathan Gold. Gold was a Pulitzer Prize-winning Los Angeles Times restaurant critic, a friend and advocate for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and he was one of the most widely admired voices and champions of Los Angeles.

“Jonathan was a good friend and great advocate for the Food Bank,” said Michael Flood, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. “He believed that no one in the community that he loved should go hungry. Part of Jonathan’s legacy was his insistence that events celebrating food around the city benefited charities like the Food Bank. He’s going to be missed tremendously by everyone in LA.”

On May 26, 2019, the LA Food Bowl also partnered with Outstanding in the Field for a collaborative, community dining experience which benefited the Food Bank. OITF is a traveling celebration of people and place and the origins of good food. Guest Chefs included Tim Hollingsworth of Otium and longtime friends of the Food Bank Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger of Border Grill.

The event raised $7,000, which is the equivalent of 28,000 meals for our neighbors in need.

Celebrating With Food

In this digital age, events are important opportunities to connect with members of our community- the community that makes our mission possible. We hope you’ll consider joining us at our upcoming BBQ event, Howlin’ With Harris, on June 29.
