Yazmin receives donated LA food resources at Iglesia El Lirio de los Valles, a Food Bank partner agency in Lancaster, to help her family get through tough times

In today’s economy, low- to middle-income individuals and families are doing whatever they can to save money in order to get through the month. Unfortunately, this may mean cutting back on necessary items like medicine and, in some cases, on meals. 

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank works with nonprofit organizations, or partner agencies, throughout LA County to help maximize its reach and put food on the table for 870,000 individuals each month, as of October 2023.

Year-round, from Long Beach to Lancaster, food-insecure individuals can visit these partner agencies to receive free LA food resources, and in some agencies, additional services are available. At the Iglesia El Lirio de los Valles in Lancaster, the food distribution comes as a blessing to many in the Antelope Valley.

A Food Pantry Helping Yazmin Maximize Her Grocery Budget 

Yazmin is one of the hundreds of individuals who visit the Iglesia El Lirio de los Valles in Lancaster for its food assistance. Like many families, she has to look at her grocery list, her budget, take a deep breath and go to the grocery store and hope for the best. However, on many occasions, items are too expensive to purchase.

“The items that go up in price, we can no longer afford so easily,” she said. “Before, we used to be able to buy two gallons of milk, and now we can only buy a small one.”
