Food From the Bar, a six-week campaign led by Los Angeles attorneys and staff from 50 legal organizations, raised over $490,000 in donations to benefit the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Additionally, the legal community volunteered a total of 638 volunteer shifts to help glean, sort, and pack food at the Food Bank. The funds raised will be used by the Food Bank and its Partner Agency Network, which consists of over 600 nonprofits, to provide essential nourishment to individuals facing food insecurity.
Since its inception in 2009, Food from the Bar has united law firms, legal services organizations, law schools, government legal offices, and courts in a friendly competition to raise funds, donate food, and volunteer their time in support of the Food Bank’s mission to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community. To date, this campaign has raised more than $8 million.
“Each year, through Food From The Bar, legal professionals across LA County come together with remarkable generosity and commitment to help fight hunger throughout Los Angeles County,” said Michael Flood, President and CEO of the LA Regional Food Bank. “Thank you to everyone involved in this annual campaign, which helps us continue our essential work.”
While every contribution led to the campaign’s success, Munger, Tolles & Olson, LLP was the Overall Winner, and Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP was the Per Capita Winner in this year’s edition.
“Winning this year’s Food from the Bar campaign is an incredible honor, but what matters most is knowing that our collective efforts will help the Food Bank continue providing nutritious food to children, families, seniors, and individuals facing hunger throughout LA County,” said Jessica Laird of Munger, Tolles & Olson, LLP. “The legal community has a long tradition of giving back, and we’re proud to support an organization whose work touches the lives of more than one million people each month. This campaign is proof that when we work together, we can make a meaningful difference for our neighbors and help build a stronger, healthier community.”
Food is one of the most basic, everyday necessities, and yet, millions of individuals don’t have access to this crucial resource. With support from the community, including Food From The Bar and the Food Bank, and our partner agencies, we provide uninterrupted support to over a million neighbors each month.
