Over 40 years ago, a group of four women got together to provide food assistance to struggling neighbors. Little did they know that one small act of kindness would turn into a larger operation that makes a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of neighbors each week, also known as the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, a proud partner agency of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
What started in a small garage has grown into an operation with multiple locations, including a 1,400-square-foot building where they host their bi-weekly food distributions. At the intersection of Moorpark Street and Troost Avenue, individuals and families line up for drive-through distributions or simply walk up to receive the food assistance they need to get by.
Due to rising costs of everyday essentials such as groceries, gas, rent, and utilities, the number of individuals served at each distribution remains high. The North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry provides neighbors with essential food items such as fresh produce, shelf-stable items, protein, and much-needed household products like laundry detergent or shampoo.
Neighbors such as Anna, who visited the food pantry for the first time, can benefit from the distributions. Her husband recently lost his job, and their rent and utility bills have been rising. By finding the distribution, Anna gets peace of mind knowing that they’ll be able to put food on the table, ease their grocery budget, and pay other urgent bills.
If you are in a position to support programs fighting hunger, such as the one at the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, consider donating to the Food Bank or volunteering at one of our distribution centers or partner agencies.
