For many older adults across Los Angeles County, retirement does not always mean financial security. Rising housing costs, increasing utility bills, and higher grocery prices continue to put pressure on seniors living on fixed incomes.
For thousands of neighbors, access to nutritious food can make the difference between stability and hardship. That is why the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry (MFP) Program remains such a vital lifeline for communities throughout the region.
For neighbors like Maria Estela, that support makes a meaningful difference every month.
“We come to pick up food because everything is so expensive,” Maria Estela shared during an MFP distribution at Hollydale Park in South Gate. Living in a household with five other older adults, all retired, she explained that every dollar matters, and every resource helps stretch their monthly budget.
For older adults living on Social Security, pensions, or other fixed incomes, those savings can mean the ability to pay for medications, utilities, transportation, or medical appointments without sacrificing access to nutritious meals.
For seniors like Maria Estela and her household, access to food close to home means one less worry at the end of the month, and a reminder that they are not alone. If you would like to support the Food Bank’s programs, consider donating or volunteering.
