Living alone in Los Angeles County seems almost impossible. Even more so for someone who is living on a fixed income like Anabel.
Anabel is an older adult living on her own in East Los Angeles. While keeping up with the rise in costs of everyday essentials, groceries, utilities, and transportation, Anabel makes it work by seeking food assistance from Eastmont Community Center, a proud LA Regional Food Bank partner agency.
“Right now, with how expensive everything is, what we receive isn’t enough,” Anabel said. “Now, you go to the market, and you don’t bring much back in comparison to how it was before. I see my cart, and everything that we get, and I compare it to the market, and it’s a lot, it’s almost $400.”
For Anabel, the food distribution and all of the other resources Eastmont provides have been a huge help. In addition to providing her with food, the Eastmont Community Center distribution also provided her with dog food for her only companion, who passed away over a year ago.
While she attends distributions to receive nutritious food, she also enjoys talking to fellow neighbors and the friendly Eastmont team. According to Anabel, receiving food and attending the distribution helps keep her mind active, thereby boosting her cognitive function.
Food distributions, like the one at Eastmont Community Center, are a lifeline for many individuals, including Anabel. Consider supporting the Food Bank and its partner agency network by donating today.
