Make a Tax-Wise Gift Before December 31: Consider the Food Bank

Learn more about smart ways to maximize your 2025 Year-End Giving.

As the year comes to a close, it’s a natural time to reflect on what matters most—family, community, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference. At the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, we see every day how your generosity directly supports families, seniors, and children who might otherwise face hunger alone.

If you’re considering a year-end gift, there are several tax-smart ways to give that can benefit both you and the community. Here’s a helpful overview to guide your planning before December 31.

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free donation of up to $108,000 directly from your IRA to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. This type of qualified charitable distribution (QCD) can help satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) and may reduce your taxable income.

Gifts of Appreciated Stock

Donating long-term appreciated stock or other securities can be a powerful way to give. By donating shares directly, you may avoid capital gains taxes, claim a charitable deduction for the full market value, and increase the overall impact of your gift. This is often one of the most efficient ways to support hunger relief.

Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)

If you have a Donor-Advised Fund, recommending a grant to the Food Bank is fast, flexible, and impactful. Year-end is a great time to put your philanthropic plans into action and help ensure local families have access to healthy, nourishing food.

Legacy Giving

Including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in your estate plans is a thoughtful way to extend your values beyond your lifetime. Legacy gifts help sustain our mission for generations to come, ensuring future families will have the support they need.

Cryptocurrency Donations

Cryptocurrency gifts remain a straightforward and tax-efficient way to give. The Food Bank accepts Bitcoin, Ethereum, and several other cryptocurrencies, allowing donors to support families across LA County using digital assets.

Your Generosity Makes a Lasting Impact

Thanks to supporters like you, the Food Bank can continue providing the essential nourishment our community depends on. Your kindness ensures that our neighbors do not face hunger alone—during the holidays and throughout the year.

From all of us at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, we extend our warmest wishes for a safe, healthy, and joyful holiday season.
