Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation x LA Regional Food Bank: Partners in Fighting Hunger in LA County

Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation x LA Regional Food Bank: Partners in Fighting Hunger in LA County

Before the pandemic, Los Angeles County was in need. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank was already in action serving 300,000 food recipients each month. But once the pandemic hit our County, the need was greater than ever.

Fortunately, the Food Bank had established positive relationships and partnerships with hundreds of companies, organizations, and foundations throughout the County, including the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), that helped us serve the 900,000 clients a month we received in 2020, three times more than those we served before the pandemic.

Thanks to an awarded grant of $725,000 from LADF, the LA Regional Food Bank was able to provide 2.9 million meals to those in need. Through the Foundation’s Pull Up Neighbor Tour, the Food Bank visited 10 cities to support vulnerable communities that were hit the hardest throughout the pandemic, and that continue to recover, including Compton, San Fernando Valley, Long Beach, South East LA, Watts, Inland Empire, Wilmington, South – LA, East LA, and Inglewood.

“We are grateful to the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation for their generosity and support as we work together to alleviate hunger in LA County,” said Food Bank CEO and President Michael Flood. “Their continued dedication to serving our communities is extraordinary, and we hope we can continue working together for the greater good.”

In addition to this, the Food Bank will provide meals for LADF’s Dodger Day community events for Dodgers RBI families. Throughout the pandemic, LADF’s relief efforts have provided more than 4 million meals and over $2.5 million worth of food, water, hygiene necessities, educational resources and other basic needs to community organizations and families.

Earlier this year, LADF hosted the 40th installment of RWQuarantunes – their charity-benefiting live broadcast, and their second program benefiting the LA Regional Food Bank – featuring Richard and Demi Weitz. The event raised $1.1 million that will provide 3.3 million meals to County residents.
