The LA Kings and WWE Join Forces to Fight Hunger

On November 21, members of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and the LA Kings organization visited the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to lend their time and energy as volunteers. In just three short hours they were able to sort through more than 8,000 pounds of fresh produce, which will be distributed to children in need through the Food Bank’s BackPack Program.

It’s a great time to help out

To say that this is a busy season here at the Food Bank would be a great understatement. Agencies have been lining up to receive nutritious food to take back to their local communities, food drives are starting up all over the county and volunteers have been doing their part to ensure that no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving. Without dedicated volunteers like the LA Kings and WWE, the Food Bank would not be able to sort and distribute one million pounds of food each week to our neighbors in need.

Everyone’s got their own struggles

Pro wrestler Levis Valenzuela Jr., also known as ‘No Way José’, was perhaps the most enthusiastic of the volunteers in attendance, even starting his signature conga line at one point.

When asked what inspired him to help out the Food Bank, Valenzuela explained, “You know, giving back to the community…just trying to help out some hungry kids. It means a lot to me.

“Everyone’s got their own struggles; everyone faces their own things.

“If we can help out in any way shape or form, to show support, especially with the platform that we have…” The food drive was part of a Food 4 Kids Backpack program, aimed at keeping young school kids fed, especially important with Thanksgiving happening later this week.

You don’t have to be a superhero to fight hunger
