The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the LA Clippers came together for two days of community service, demonstrating the power of teamwork both on and off the basketball court.
On October 15, Clippers representatives participated in a volunteer event at the Food Bank, followed by a Feed the Community food distribution event at Intuit Dome on October 17. Together, these efforts highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing food insecurity and supporting neighbors throughout Los Angeles County.
Clippers players, including Darius Garland, Bradley Beal, Kobe Sanders, Baba Miller, and Jordan Miller, and LA Clippers Interim Chief Executive Officer and Governor, John Gibson, participated in the community efforts, connecting with local families and helping bring attention to the ongoing need for food assistance.
For Garland, a Clippers point guard, giving back to the community is particularly meaningful when it brings families together. He shared how rewarding it was to participate in a family-friendly event, especially one that included children.
Garland also expressed appreciation for the Clippers fans who support the team beyond basketball, including those who show up for community events and give-back opportunities.
The event brought together players, volunteers and community members around a shared goal: helping ensure that families have access to nutritious food.
With rising living costs continuing to strain household budgets, food assistance remains a critical resource for many Los Angeles County residents.
Michael Flood, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, underscored that partnerships like the one with the Clippers help expand the Food Bank’s reach by bringing in more volunteers, raising awareness, and reinforcing the importance of hunger relief.
He noted that the Clippers’ continued involvement helps demonstrate to the broader community that food assistance is an essential service, particularly at a time when inflation and other financial pressures make it difficult for many families to afford groceries.
Through its network of more than 600 partner agencies, the Food Bank provides food assistance to approximately 1.1 million people each month across Los Angeles County.
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank extends its gratitude to the LA Clippers, participating players, staff, and volunteers for their continued partnership and commitment to serving the community.
Together, we can help ensure that more of our neighbors have access to the nutritious food they need to thrive. #WeFeedLA.
