In Tough Times, Food Pantries are Helping Our Neighbors

Connie is currently unemployed. Visiting the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry helps feed her and her daughter.

Tough times can come in the most unexpected moments. Whether it’s job or income loss, accidents, or any other situation, it’s in times like these that the most pressure goes to our wallets. However, food security shouldn’t be a sacrifice.

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank works with hundreds of nonprofit organizations or partner agencies that provide food assistance to those seeking it throughout LA County. Food assistance, like the one available at the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry, helps hundreds of families each week, regardless of financial or employment status, and as long as it is needed.

Connie Turns to This Food Pantry to Provide for Her Family

Without a job, anybody, including Connie, would struggle. Without an income, she has to find a way to feed herself and her young daughter and cover any other costs. Although her daughter receives CalFresh benefits, the $189 per month that she receives is simply not enough to feed them both for the full month. Which is why she turns to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry for assistance.

“I get food stamps, $189, and that probably lasts probably about two weeks with the food stamps that I have,” Connie said. “I’ll get like the meat, and I’ll get the stuff that I don’t get here, so this will take the place of whatever I can’t get.”

Thousands of individuals in LA County, like Connie, have lost income or are struggling to make ends meet. If you are in a position to do so, consider donating to the LA Regional Food Bank and positively impacting our communities.
