Celebrate National Volunteer Month with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

National Volunteer Month is a time dedicated every April to recognizing the invaluable contributions of volunteers across the nation. At the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, this month holds special significance as we celebrate the incredible individuals who generously donate their time to help fight hunger in Los Angeles County.

In 2023 alone, over 21,000 volunteers dedicated a combined total of 137,000 hours to support our mission. These dedicated individuals worked tirelessly at our facilities and food distribution sites, sorting, gleaning, packing and distributing food to those in need throughout our community. Their remarkable efforts contributed to 33 percent of our overall work hours in 2023, which is roughly equivalent to 70 full-time employees.

Learn more about the Food Bank’s volunteer program by watching our YouTube playlist, which shows celebrity volunteers, corporate groups, and our individual volunteer experience:

Volunteers are central to the work of the Food Bank and played a vital role in our ability to distribute over 115 million pounds of food and grocery products in 2023. Their contributions allow us to maximize our impact, ensuring more families and individuals access nutritious meals and essential resources. Donated food and volunteer time are two things that help the Food Bank remain so efficient with financial donations.

National Volunteer Month is an opportunity to inspire others to join our fight to alleviate food and nutrition insecurity. Whether you’re a student, professional, retiree, a member of a corporate group or anyone with a passion for making a difference, there’s a place for you at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. By volunteering with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, you’ll be part of a dedicated team committed to fighting hunger and improving lives across Los Angeles County. Whether you can spare a few hours or commit to regular shifts, your contribution will make a difference.
