How Your Contribution to the Food Bank Goes A Long Way for Families This Holiday Season and Beyond

How Your Contribution to the Food Bank Goes A Long Way for Families This Holiday Season and Beyond

Because of your support to the Food Bank, families like Maria’s can provide food and a smile to their families.

The holidays are known as a time of giving. Year-round, the majority of children look forward to their birthdays and the holidays to receive gifts and celebrate with their families and friends. Unbeknownst to them, many parents are struggling to put food on the table, a staggering 56% of parents with young children are struggling with food insecurity, according to a recent article from the RAPID-California Voices Project.

The LA Regional Food Bank has been at the helm of addressing food insecurity across LA County for over 50 years. In the first nine months of 2024, the Food Bank distributed 93 million pounds of food, translating to 75 million meals—a 10% increase from 2023. Working alongside more than 600 partner agencies, the Food Bank distributes food to hundreds of thousands of individuals from Long Beach to the Antelope Valley.

Sowing Seeds for Life in Pomona is among the hundreds of nonprofit organizations that work with the Food Bank to help our neighbors in need. Twice a month, Sowing Seeds serves hundreds of individuals who come by looking for food assistance. When the holiday season comes around, that number escalates, as thousands of families look for ways to celebrate the holidays and put a smile on their children’s faces.

Maria is among the thousands of families who turn to Sowing Seeds for food assistance each month. With a family of seven and just one income, Maria has to look for ways to help her husband make ends meet, so she turns to the food distribution at Sowing Seeds as a way to help out.

However, as the holiday season comes around, the stressor of providing gifts and food becomes a bigger burden. Luckily, Sowing Seeds helps out with both, providing nutritious food and a small toy for young children.

Families like Maria’s need food assistance not just during the holiday season but year-round. Consider making a one-time donation to the Food Bank or becoming a monthly donor.
