On Sunday, September 27, supporters gathered in the Hollywood Hills for the fifth annual A Million Reasons, a special evening benefiting the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana.

The event brought together supporters around shared goals: fighting hunger in Los Angeles County and preserving the world’s oceans. Proceeds benefit the Food Bank and its hunger-relief programs, as well as Oceana, as they continue restoring abundant oceans so that local catch supports local people.

An Evening With a Purpose

A Million Reasons offered guests an opportunity to come together for an evening of connection while supporting the Food Bank’s mission to alleviate hunger in Los Angeles County.

The evening also highlighted the impact of community support at a time when many households continue to face difficult choices between food and other necessities.

Since its founding in 1973, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has acquired and distributed more than 2.4 billion pounds of food and grocery products. Today, the Food Bank works alongside a network of more than 600 partner agencies and through direct distribution programs to help provide food assistance to neighbors throughout Los Angeles County.

The Food Bank also operates programs designed to meet the unique nutritional needs of children, older adults, and families. This includes one of the largest senior food assistance programs in the country, helping older adults access nutritious food while living on limited or fixed incomes.

Supporting People and the Planet

This year’s A Million Reasons was presented with Oceana, the world’s largest organization focused solely on ocean conservation.

For 25 years, Oceana has worked to protect and restore the world’s oceans for people and the planet. Its work focuses on achieving policy changes to rebuild abundant, biodiverse oceans. To date, Oceana has achieved more than 350 victories around the world addressing issues including overfishing, plastic pollution, offshore drilling, habitat protection, and threatened species.

The partnership brought together two organizations addressing different but important needs: helping ensure people have access to nutritious food and protecting the natural resources that communities around the world depend upon.

One Million Reasons to Give Back

Events like A Million Reasons demonstrate what is possible when individuals, businesses, and organizations come together around a common purpose.
