Client Story – Shannon | Eating is saving my life right now—thank you!

My name is Shannon. I’ve started coming to this food pantry because I haven’t been able to work for the last year due to health issues. I don’t have any money at the moment, and the groceries I get here help me a whole lot.

I was living in Alabama working in the deli department at a grocery store. My health started going downhill, I got too weak to work and had to move back here. I’m living with my brother and his family while I try and find out what’s going on with me.

A person stands in front of a small food pantry linked to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, stocked with various canned and boxed items. They are smiling, wearing a gray top, and carrying a black shoulder bag. The shelves behind are neatly organized with food products.
Shannon’s health issues have left her underweight and unable to work for the last year. Eating healthy is vital for her.

The food you provide makes a real impact

No one knows what’s wrong with me, just that my digestive system isn’t letting my body hold food or anything at all. The doctors told me that what I’m eating is saving my life because I’m underweight right now. Food has become so important for me.

Coming to the food pantry I get meat, bread, vegetables and other staples that help me have enough to eat when I run out of food and money. And I love cooking everything!

I don’t think people who provide this food always know what an impact it makes on people who are needy. For myself, I appreciate it a whole lot because without this, I’d be starving! I’d really like to say thank you to everybody who participates in providing the food. It means a lot that you care and have a heart to see that there are people in need.
