Bringing Food Directly to Communities Through the Mobile Food Pantry

Bringing Food Directly to Communities Through the Mobile Food Pantry

For many individuals and families across Los Angeles County, access to nutritious food is not always within reach. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry Program helps bring fresh, healthy food directly to communities where it is needed most.

Meeting Communities Where They Are

The Mobile Food Pantry is designed to remove barriers to access by bringing food directly into neighborhoods facing the greatest challenges. Each distribution delivers thousands of pounds of food, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins, to children, older adults, and families navigating difficult circumstances.

During times of crisis, the program has adapted to meet evolving needs. At the height of the Greater LA wildfires and the pandemic, the Food Bank worked alongside community partners to implement drive-through distributions, ensuring food continued to reach neighbors at scale.

Mobile Food Pantry distributions take place in easily accessible community spaces to reach neighbors. These sites often include college campuses, local parks, school parking lots, community centers, and other trusted neighborhood locations. By bringing food directly into these spaces, the Mobile Food Pantry helps reduce transportation barriers and ensures that individuals and families can access nutritious groceries in convenient and familiar settings.

These efforts reflect a core commitment to meeting people where they are and responding quickly when communities face increased need.

Holiday Support That Made a Difference

During the 2025 holiday season, the Herb Alpert Foundation provided a generous matching gift to support the Mobile Food Pantry Program. Through this effort, donations were matched up to $100,000, helping to expand the reach of distributions during a time when many families and individuals faced increased need.

This support helped deliver fresh produce, pantry staples, and essential groceries directly to communities across Los Angeles County. By doubling the impact of donations, the match allowed the Food Bank to serve more families, children, and older adults during the holiday season.

A Continued Commitment

The Mobile Food Pantry Program reflects the Food Bank’s ongoing commitment to serving neighbors in need with compassion, efficiency, and care. Whether responding to a large-scale emergency or addressing everyday barriers to food access, the program plays a vital role in ensuring that nutritious food reaches communities across the region.

With continued support from partners, volunteers, and donors, the Food Bank will continue to mobilize resources to meet the needs of our communities.
