Chief Development Officer

Position Summary:

The Chief Development Officer plans, organizes, staffs, and directs fund development, communications and community relations activities to enhance the sustainability and expansion of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank programs and services. Responsible for the coordination and administration of the Development Department including ongoing annual giving efforts, and organization-wide communications. Assures that strategic goals of major gifts development and capital development are met.  Oversees staff responsible for annual giving and communications programs.

Priorities for strategic development

·         Major Gifts – development and implementation of a systematic program to move donors from direct mail and event supporters to $5,000+ level contributors, capital donors and candidates for planned gifts.

·         Capital Development – ongoing support of capital development planning and donor cultivation including the Phase I comprehensive capacity building campaign and planning for future phases.

·         External communications – including expansion of website communications, cause marketing and social media outreach.

·         Internal communications – including staff training and developing understanding amongst all departments about their importance to fundraising and thus, the long term impact of the Food Bank.

 

Qualifications:

The chosen candidate will be able to lead a team, work on numerous priorities simultaneously, and be a proficient, diplomatic communicator to interact with all levels of personnel. The candidate will be a strategic player, highly organized and detail-oriented. He/she is proactive and resourceful, with outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal skills and a savvy relationship builder – able to translate vision into action by motivating others and moving the agenda forward. He/she will be energized and passionate about the mission and activities of the Food Bank and will possess:

  • Tremendous motivation, energy, and strategic thinking skills;
  • Minimum ten (10) years of proven high-level management and leadership capabilities, including ability to collaborate, inspire teamwork, and  motivate others to work together toward a common goal;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and create appropriate budget frameworks;
  • Articulate and persuasive communication style, with well-honed relationship-building capabilities;
  • Broad functional experience in areas of strategic planning, marketing, promotions, and events;
  • A professional demeanor and personal style that elicits trust from prospects, staff, and board;
  • A strong work ethic and a results/solutions-driven, positive attitude;
  • Impeccable integrity, judgment, and discretion needed to handle confidential matters;
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher; CFRE desired but not required.

COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

Job Type: Full time

Status:  Hourly/Non-Exempt

Reports to: Communications Director

Start: ASAP 

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank seeks a high-energy professional to be a part of the communications team and provide support in preparation of cause marketing and communications materials developed to drive awareness and increase revenue to Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.  Will work with the Communications Director and Senior Grant Writer to create documents, reports, and other items.

Qualifications:

  • ·        Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or English.
  • ·         2-4 years public relations experience in non-profit environment highly preferred.
  • ·         Superb interpersonal, written (including proofreading and editing) and oral communications skills.
  • ·         Self-starter who is able to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • ·         Interested in collaborating in a team environment across department\
  • ·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social platforms.
  • ·         Highly organized, meticulous, detailed and service-oriented with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and lead multiple projects simultaneously

Job Duties:

  • ·         Works closely with the Communications Director to prepare first drafts of documents such as newsletters, pitches, press releases and other press materials.
  • ·         Track media coverage and gather monthly media recap reports.
  • ·         Assist with development department events and campaigns.
  • ·         Assist with content for website and social media.
  • ·         Copy and edit Food Bank materials for all departments including brochures and informational flyers.
  • ·         Assist Communications Director in all department responsibilities.
  • ·         Assist the Senior Grant Writer with preparing letters, reports and grant proposals to foundations as needed.

DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING

Job Type:Full time

Status:Exempt/Salary

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Start: ASAP

The Director of Accounting will have primary responsibility for management and oversight of the Accounting team. This will include direct responsibility for review and maintenance of general ledger journal entry, auditing of program records and reports, inventory recordkeeping and reports, payroll, and accounts receivables and payables.  Guides and directs staff in all aspects of general ledger preparation, transaction posting, reconciliation, depreciation, expense and budget reporting, revenue, etc.  Participates in the formulation and execution of internal procedures and processes necessary to manage current activities and assure compliance to GAAP.  Works with Chief Financial Officer in analysis of bank reports, including cash information and status, and makes recommendations to ensure tight controls are maintained.   

 Qualifications and Requirements: The chosen candidate will be able to work on numerous priorities with competing deadlines.  The candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented. The chosen candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in leading by example and will possess:

Qualifications: 

• Minimum five (5) years of high-level management experience, handling all phases of Accounting from detailed journal entry to month-end closing, as well as strong leadership capabilities, including ability to inspire and  motivate;

• Must be able to interact well with all levels of personnel;

• A professional demeanor and solid work style that elicits trust from staff;

• A strong work ethic and an open, positive attitude;

• Impeccable integrity, sound judgment, and discretion needed to handle confidential matters;

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or related course
