Faces of the Food Bank: Michael

Like many older Americans, Michael Holt is on a fixed income. “Once I pay my rent, I only have about $150 that’s got to last me the rest of the month,” he says.

At 70, he is one of more than 300,000 clients served monthly through our agency network and Food Bank programs. Mr. Holt has been coming to My Friends House, Inc. for several years because they provide nutritious staples, meat and fruit. “I especially love the fruit,” he says. “I can’t afford to buy fresh fruit at the store.”

Mr. Holt considers himself lucky because he’s “pretty healthy,” and likes to exercise and ride his bicycle. His neighbor, another senior citizen, has trouble getting out of the house, so he shares his food with her. “I’m not a very good cook so my neighbor takes the food and cooks it and then we both get a meal.”

“We are so grateful to My Friends House,” Mr. Holt says. “They’re part of the community…and are all around good people.”

Because of our many supporters, we are able to serve seniors like Mr. Holt with dignity and respect. Thank you for helping us provide nutritious food for our seniors in need!
