Home Runs That Help campaign

All season long Trader Joe's will be donating $200 for every home run the Los Angeles Dodgers make during their regular 2009 baseball season home games.  The Foodbank is extremely grateful to be the beneficiary of this campaign for the 2nd year in a row.  Last year Trader Joe's presented a check for $20,000 to the Foodbank.

‘Pay it Forward’ night  is where fans are encouraged to donate food items (canned food and other non-perishable food) when they come to the game on August 6th. Sparks staff will be on hand to collect such items from fans for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank prior to tip-off on Thursday, August 6th when the Sparks go head to head against conference rival, the San Antonio Silver Stars.

Trader Joe’s commitment to the community and the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank doesn’t stop with ‘Pay it Forward’ night as it also includes a donation of $75 (benefiting the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank) for each three-pointer made by the Sparks at home games during the regular season as part of Hoops For Hunger.

UCLA's Government &  Community Relations is coordinating  fellow Bruins (faculty, alumni, students, and staff) to volunteer on June 27, 2009 at the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank from 8:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Please join us for this exciting opportunity to give back to our community. June 18 The 2nd Annual Psomas Paper Yacht Challenge - in Los Angeles

Pint-sized yachts – Titanic rewards!  Build a paper boat and race it to the finish line!

Join us for the second annual Psomas Paper Yacht Challenge where ingenuity, enthusiasm, paper, water, and wind will combine to raise money for a wonderful cause.  All proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.

Ralphs and Food4Less are inviting customers to help hungry people in their own communities by joining in “Bringing Hope to the Table®,” a two-week campaign that begins May 31. Shoppers can help by purchasing participating items in Ralphs & Food4Less stores that have pledged to support Feeding America food banks throughout Southern California. The Foodbank’s 6th annual wine tasting event at the historic Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, sponsored by Ralphs has sold out.  Thanks to everyone who's coming out to thte event for making it a great success.  Make sure to keep an eye out for our 2010 event.

Food from the Bar is a project involving law firms and legal offices in which participants can contribute money, donate food, and/or volunteer time sorting and packing food at the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.

Sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar Association and numerous downtown LA law firms, this is the first year Los Angeles lawyers are participating. Food from the Bar will help the Foodbank distribute food to our neighbors who experience food insecurity and need additional help as the summer approaches.

May 9 USPS and National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United States Postal Service are gearing up for their annual “Stamp Out Hunger “ food drive. This food drive will help provide food to some of the one million people in Los Angeles County who experience food insecurity and are struggling to put food on the table for their families. The food drive helps the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank and local charities bolster their depleted inventories as the demand for food assistance continues to rise faster than donated food supplies. Last year, the drive raised over 71 million pounds of food nationally.
   
May 9 Drum Downtown Food Drive

J
ump start your Saturday morning, May 9th with drumming fun on the Music Center Plaza. Feel the contagious rhythms and make music in the moment with hand drums, shakers, tambourines, and other percussion instruments provided.

The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank will collect non-perishable food and personal care items. Bring your item and help fight hunger in our community at Drum Downtown.  For more info click here.

   
Feb. - April The Biggest Loser - Pound For Pound Challenge

You can help the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank when you join General Mills, The Biggest Loser and Feeding America in the Pound For Pound Challenge. Through the challenge, you can sign up at www.pfpchallenge.com to pledge your weight loss goals and lose some of those unwanted pounds. For every pound lost until April 27, 2009, General Mills will donate 10 cents to Feeding America.

Grocery shoppers can also look for Pound For Pound seals on specially-marked General Mills products. For each seal mailed in through December 31, 2009, General Mills will also donate 10 cents to Feeding America. General Mills brands carrying the seal include Cheerios®, Green Giant®, Yoplait Light®, and many others

April 15 & 16 Bruce Springsteen at the L.A. Sports Arena

As you may know, Bruce played twp shows at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena on Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16. For each of these performances, he offered the Foodbank VIP Ticket Packages for fundraising that included prime seats and a meet and greet with Bruce. Thanks to Boss and his fans, with their help we raised over $43,000 to help fight hunger in Los Angeles County.

For their Spring fund drive, KPCC listeners will once again  have an option to help support the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank instead of accepting station premium items.

This is a great partnership to help both Southern California Public Radio and the Foodbank at the same time.

 
   
January 17 Community Organize Volunteer Day at Foodbank  -  9am to 1pm

President-Elect Barack Obama has called on the entire nation to participate in a National Day of Service in conjunction with his inauguration. On behalf of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, we’re asking you, the extraordinary California volunteers who helped Barack win the election, show support for his continued dedication to community service.  Space is limited to the first 200 people (all volunteers must be at least 14 years old.)

The 49th Annual Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration, the country's largest multicultural holiday show, will be more than a feast for the eyes and ears. Food joins music and dance as a source of seasonal cheer as the 47 performing groups in the six-hour music and dance spectacular are introduced by L.A.'s top celebrity chefs. The host roster includes Border Grill's Susan Feniger; Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook (Animal) formerly of the Food Network; Akasha Richmond of Culver City's Akasha; Kajsa Alger, executive chef of the soon-to-open Street; Chef Jeff Henderson of the Food Network's Chef Jeff Project; and Chef Lala, author of the just published "Best Loved Mexican Cooking with Chef Lala." The chefs will share holiday recipes from around the world via the show's web site, www.holidaycelebration.org, so the audience can prepare them at home during the LIVE broadcast of the Holiday Celebration on KCET. Holiday Celebration attendees are invited to bring canned and packaged goods to the Music Center the day of the show to support the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.

The 10th annual live "97.1 FREE FM's Stuff-A-Truck Food Drive" takes place November 21-23 at the Smart & Final Store located at 11221 W. Pico Blvd in Los Angeles.  Our goal this year is to raise over 100,000 pounds of food!  We need your help to do it.
