Rapid Food Distribution

Rapid Food Distribution allows the Food Bank to distribute highly nutritious, fruits, vegetables and other perishable foods out to its agencies throughout Los Angeles County before it spoils. The Food Bank's refrigerated beverage truck is used to transport fresh, perishable foods to agencies that have very limited refrigeration.

Last year, more than 3.8 million pounds of produce and perishable food items are distributed through this program. The Food Bank distributes a total of more than 50 million pounds of food annually and 20 percent of that food is produce.

Mobile Food Pantry

We have 16 Mobile Food Pantry vehicles that are used to distribute food to people in underserved areas of L.A. County. The program, which was launched in 2012, now serves 250- 300 households at each distribution. Food on each truck is a combination of USDA commodities, donated foods, produce and perishables.

Extra Helpings

Caterers, restaurants, hotels, bakeries and other food service establishments can contact the Food Bank food rescue program representative at    877-NOHUNGER (664-8643), ext. 161 between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. to donate unserved food.

If you are interested in donating, please provide the pick-up location, contact information, day and time of pick-up and type of product available. Pick-ups for Extra Helpings may be arranged for times outside of normal operating hours.

We typically link donors to partnering agencies near their location to ensure the donation is used as quickly as possible.

For larger events or ongoing regular pick-ups, the Food Bank may arrange to pick up the donation in one of our refrigerated trucks. In either case, the donor will receive a receipt when the pick-up is made. Donations may be tax deductible. Ask your tax advisor about the benefits of donating to a nonprofit organization.

Donations made to nonprofit organizations in good faith are protected under the Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act and California laws that release donors from liability. Additionally, all member charities sign a waiver releasing the donor from liability.
