THE FARM BILL The House and Senate remain sharply divided on how to proceed. The Senate has passed its version of the Farm Bill. In an unprecedented move, the House passed a "farm-only" version of the Farm Bill, and is now proposing $40 billion in cuts to SNAP/CalFresh. We urge you to contact your congressional representative to let them know that you oppose cuts to any federal feeding programs.
Our 2013-2014 state budget is in better shape than it has been in a long time. However, our work is not over yet. Many social safety net programs suffered extreme cuts during past state budget negotiations, and we are now working alongside many other state and local partners to have these cuts reinstated.
The Food Bank also continues its work to strengthen and streamline the SNAP/CalFresh program through legislation and administrative changes. Please contact your state legislators and ask them not to make large budget cuts on the programs that millions of low-income people rely on.
