The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank in conjunction with the staff and students of the Cypress College photography department and Sirena Films have put together this multimedia hunger awareness exhibit to enlighten the many people who may have never met or stopped to talk with a hungry person. |
| |
Hunger in Los Angeles County is near epidemic proportions. Nearly 1 in 10 people in the county are at risk of hunger, with children and seniors being disproportionately affected. Most people think of the homeless when hunger is mentioned, but the truth is that homeless population makes up only 4% of the people that the Foodbank provides food for in its hunger relief efforts.
Hunger in Los Angeles County is a growing problem. More than 1.4 million people, out of the county's total population of 10 million people, are at risk of hunger. Nearly 600,000 people experience hunger at some point during the year. While these statistics are staggering, the personal stories of those impacted by hunger get lost in the numbers.
The stories, photos and video are presented here to give you a first hand account of the reasons why more and more people are coming to local food pantries and hunger relief agencies. |

We are grateful to all of the people and families that opened up their personal lives to help us convey the story of hunger in Los Angeles County and the many different situations that may cause someone to seek food assistance.
