LOS ANGELES, CA (August 5, 2010) – The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank received a donation of $154,126.19 from Ralphs andFood-4-Less as part of the Southern California retailers’ recent in-store, anti-hunger campaign entitled “Bringing Hope to the Table.” The campaign raises funds to help fight childhood hunger during the summer.
|

As schools let out for the summer, many students, enrolled in the free or reduced meal programs, are at risk of going hungry during the summer months. With the cost of food items soaring, now more that ever the Food Bank needs help from local food retailers and the public to meet the growing demand for food assistance.

“We are extremely grateful for this donation,” said Michael Flood, President/CEO of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. “Ralphs and Food 4 Less have been longtime supporters of the Food Bank. The Bringing Hope to the Table campaign is a huge success and raises a great deal of funds as well as awareness for the Food Bank at a critical time with more people facing hunger.”

This year’s “Bringing Hope to the Table” nation-wide campaign provided $4 millionfor Feeding America affiliated food banks in communities served by Kroger, Ralphs and Food-4-Less stores, including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. (Kroger is the parent company of Ralphs and Food 4 Less.)

“Food banks and hunger agencies are facing unprecedented demand. In fact, 1 in 8 Americans struggle from hunger each year and the numbers are growing. Through ‘Bringing Hope to the Table,’ our customers, team members and vendors can drive funds to local food banks to help hungry people who are our neighbors,” said Mike Donnelly, President of Ralphs.

“Bringing Hope to the Table” is part of Ralphs and Food-4-Less’ year-round commitment to fighting hunger in our communities. In 2008, Ralphs and Food-4-Less also launched a food rescue program – the Perishable Donations Partnership (PDP) – which allows stores to donate fresh meat, produce, dairy and bakery items that can no longer be sold.
