Chief Operations Officer

We're currently looking for a Chief Operations Officer with experience in a high growth environment. To succeed in this role the chosen candidate will possess:

Key Responsibilities 

Overall management responsibility for the operational and programmatic activities of the Food Bank.  Deliver against the financial plan. Provide leadership, focusing on customer requirements, operational performance and a motivated workforce. Ensure succession planning and consistent delivery of services and solutions. Performance of the following duties is done personally or through subordinate managers.


1.       Works with President/CEO to maintain a sound corporate organization and establishes policies to ensure safe and efficient operations are maintained throughout all activities.  Monitor the performance and effectiveness of key operating units within the operation: product sourcing, agency relations; delivery and other programs; volunteer programs; warehousing, logistics, and production; and quality assurance/food safety and compliance.


2.       Establish and communicate to employees a high level of expectation and commitment to continuous improvement and excellence within the operation.  Is responsible for management evaluation and development and provides for capable management succession. Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.


3.       Guides and directs staff in all aspects of operations and programs execution, ensuring efficient and timely purchase, storage, processing, and distribution of food products, in accordance with established procedures.  Works to ensure optimal service is provided internally and to client agencies and customers. 


4.       Participates in the formulation and execution of strategic plans, structures and processes necessary to manage the organization's current activities and projected growth. Maintains and updates disaster relief plan. Works with executive team in analysis of economic and political trends that leads to execution of improvement action plans to ensure that performance metrics are consistent and attain goal. 

5.       Coordinates plans for further development of existing and future programs to increase the output and efficiency of programmatic activities in keeping with demand for various kinds of food assistance.


6.       In partnership with appropriate senior staff, coordinates efforts to evaluate the results of each area of operations, including activities that directly affect organizational risk and liability and systematically reports these results to the President/CEO.  Serves as point person for matters related to Emergency Network Los Angeles agreements, legal issues and City and County requirements as they pertain to contracts compliance.   




1.       Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or fifth year college or university program certificate. Master’s Degree preferred.  Minimum ten years of demonstrated high-level leadership success within a distribution environment preferred.


2.       Superb inter-personal, written, and oral communication skills required; must be able to influence and inspire change and manage relationships effectively.  Excellent leadership and presentation capabilities to cultivate external support and present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


3.       Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.  Strong skills and substantial experience in working with integrated inventory/accounting software to analyze and forecast operational and program performance and prepare budget and statistical reports.  


4.       High level of proficiency to develop strategy and resolve tactical and practical problems.  Visionary attitude and high energy level with ability to drive results in a changing environment

Child & Nutrition Programs Director

Status: Exempt 

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Principal Function:
Coordinates and administers all aspects of ongoing child nutrition programs to schools and other sites located throughout Los Angeles County.  Child Nutrition Programs include the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) – At Risk After School, Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the BackPack Program, and other privately funded child feeding programs.  

Principal Duties: 
Administer the Food Bank’s after school meal program through CACFP in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations;  Oversee the BackPack program, School Pantry Program (Kantry) and the Meals for Minds Program to ensure all outputs are met in accordance with the goals of the Food Bank;  Coordinate the delivery of services among different program activity to increase effectiveness and efficiency;  Ensure that all program activities comply with all relevant legislation and professional standards;  Oversee the collection and maintenance of records for all child programs;  Provide technical support to staff and all participating agencies;  Organize and conduct nutrition education programs at Food Bank agencies by demonstrating food preparation techniques, food tasting opportunities and by providing nutritional recipes;  Respond to nutrition information requests by Food Bank agencies;  Circulate a bi-monthly nutrition newsletter to Food Bank agencies;  Maintain accurate records on nutrition education programs for their efficient, ongoing operation and funding reporting requirements

Other Duties:
Generate monthly output reports; Ensure the programs operate within the approved budget;  Monitor and approve all budgeted expenditures;  Participate in all required trainings and meetings for all child nutrition programs; Oversee internal health & wellness initiatives and activities

Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition/Dietician; Thorough knowledge of Federal and State regulations, and local 
Policies as they pertain to CACFP and SFSP; Ability to work with diverse Ethnicities; Excellent interpersonal communication, verbal and written skills; ability to collaborate with various groups,committees, and staff; Strong organizational and project management skills; Computer experience and familiarity with Microsoft products; Ability to both carry and lift 30 pounds; Deadline driven and detail-oriented; Self-starter who is able to work with minimum supervision; Insured vehicle with valid California driver license.

Registered Dietician; Bilingual, Spanish/English highly desirable.

Warehouse / Logistics Manager

Company: Los Angeles Regional Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that distributes food to over 650 charitable agencies located throughout Los Angeles County. The Food Bank is one of the largest in the country with an annual budget of $17 million, two facilities totaling 183,000 square feet, and a staff of over 110 employees supplemented by over 31,000 volunteers. The Food Bank is located 10 minutes south of downtown Los Angeles.

Principal Function:Has general responsibility for coordinating all warehouse and logistical activities on a daily basis. Responsible for leading and supervising the receiving, storage, movement and distribution of product in a manner consistent with Food Bank objectives. Oversee the maintenance of all warehouse vehicles, trailers and material handling equipment.

Principal Duties:

• Warehouse / Logistics Manager will supervise the sanitation, maintenance of work areas and conduct operations in a manner that promotes food and general safety, in compliance with DOT, OSHA and AIB standards. Oversee the maintenance of forklifts, trucks and other warehouse equipment in operable and safe conditions.

• Will supervise and handle day-to-day operational requirements pertaining to safety, logistics and warehousing in an expedient manner. 

• Will oversee fleet and equipment maintenance, tracking expenses against budget. P&L/Budget responsibility to include departmental expenses, (labor, equipment rental & repair, fuel, and outside shipping costs) 

• Supervises product receiving, storage and distribution in accordance with food safety regulations.

• The Warehouse / Logistics Manager is responsible for leading and dispatching a team of Class-A drivers as well as oversight of warehouse personnel. The Warehouse / Logistics Manager will be responsible for the overall direction including recruiting, hiring, training, corrective actions and employee evaluations for a staff of unionized employees. This position will also be responsible for the supervision of temporary and volunteer labor personnel. 

• Communication with internal functions (e.g. Product Donations, Agency Relations, etc.) to coordinate appropriate delivery and pick up activities.

• Work with Inventory Control Department to ensure excellent service to participating agencies.

• Complete all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate fashion. 

• Oversees the maintenance of the cooler/freezer. Keeps logs on the temperature of the cooler/freezer.

• Participates in monthly inventory, ensuring its accuracy.

• Performs other such duties as assigned by supervisor.


• Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading warehouse and carrier operations management in a consumer products environment. Experience with warehouse management systems (Ceres/Navision), ensuring compliance to standard operating procedures. 

• Knowledge of warehousing and distribution for a food service operation, preferably with a unionized workforce.

• College level education desired with good analytical and problem solving skills, with ability to develop and implement strategic plans

• Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume Distribution Center and achieve results through others.

• Knowledge of AIB and general food safety requirements, auditing requirements, inspections, etc. 

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills along with the ability to provide clear and concise details regarding cause and effect, both verbally and written. Bilingual English/Spanish desired but not required.

• Good computer skills in Microsoft Office; Excel, Word and Outlook 

• Knowledge of forklift and pallet jack (manual & electrical) maintenance and safety procedures.

• Knowledge of truck maintenance and safety procedures, DOT/DMV requirements as they pertain to Class 

A and Class B drivers.

• Must be available to work fluctuating schedule throughout the regular work week including occasional Saturdays.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time

• Must be able to handle stress caused in meeting deadlines with tight deadline requirements.

Manager of Donor Campaigns

Status: Exempt
Supervisor: Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations

Principle Function
Focuses on donor-driven campaigns (third party events), cause-related marketing, and oversees food drives. Acts as the liaison between the Food Bank and donor organizers of events that support the Food Bank and seeks to identify additional organizations to participate in donor-driven campaigns.

Supervision Required
Reports to and receives supervision from the Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations. 

Principle Duties
Develops ideas for donor-driven campaigns that support the Food Bank and coordinates implementation of these campaigns.
Provides guidance for third-party events such as the Food From the Bar, GAAP, and HATCH annual campaigns and supports implementation of these events, and represents the Food Bank at partners informational or kickoff events as requested and as appropriate.
Develops ideas for cause-related marketing programs and coordinates implementation of these programs.
Handles all inquiries regarding third-party events and cause-related marketing programs, provides contracts and implements procedures for timely reporting on the events and programs.
Supervises the Development Coordinator responsible for food drives and provides a seamless experience for donors.
Provides a seamless, professional and donor-centric giving experience for organizations seeking to support the Food Bank.
Submits regular reporting on financial results for fundraising events and cause-related marketing programs.
Creates and maintains event binders for each event to include vendors, contacts, revenue and expense information.
Generates correspondence, reports and other written development materials.
Seeks to expand the donor-driven campaign activities by developing external relationships. Represents the Food Bank at business and community networking functions, as appropriate.

Other Duties
Field requests for information regarding financial contributions to the Food Bank.
Works effectively with other staff members at all levels of responsibility within the Food Bank.
Performs other such duties as assigned by supervisor.

HR/Payroll Adminstrator

Supervisor: Human Resources Director

The Human Resources/Payroll Administrator will be responsible for preparing and processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis using a third party vendor (Paycom).  Duties include maintaining the integrity of the payroll and personnel files, salary data, journal entries, and general ledger accounts for benefits and payroll-related expenses.  Will assist the HR Director with recruitment and new hire processing, benefits enrollment, and file maintenance. 

3 - 6 years payroll processing experience, preferably with web-based payroll systems. Must be thoroughly knowledgeable of wage & hour requirements and maintain strict confidentiality/privacy of data. Must possess proficient Microsoft Office (Excel) skills, excellent Internet skills and strong written and oral communication skills (Bilingual English/Spanish required).  Must be detail oriented and well organized to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.  Impeccable integrity and a high-energy level needed to work with confidential documents in a busy office.  Some college or working towards a degree in Finance/Accounting preferred.  2 – 3 years’ human resource experience helpful, but not required (will train).
